Mobile Food Drive
The City of Canton is partnering with Academy 25 a non-profit organization and Mid-South food bank for a mobile food drive during these most difficult times which is causing significant hardship on struggling families. Five Hundred (500) or more families will be the recipients of this massive food drive. The families
will simply drive through, show proof of residency (Driver License, ID card or Utility Bill) and open their trunks and the food will be placed in the trunk by a host of volunteers. This is a tremendous humanitarian effort on the part of Academy 25, Mid-South food bank and the City of Canton.

ENACTING CURFEW

A WORD FROM
THE MAYOR
We are presently living in difficult days and difficult times. The Coronavirus epidemic is a global threat to
the health and well-being of all mankind. This pandemic has caused us to rethink our behavior and to
modify our socialization.
The President of the United States, under the recommendation of the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention, has recommended an assembly of no more than ten Americans at a time. This virus spread
is basically a consequence of human-to-human transmission, through coughing, sneezing and
handshakes.
Despite the fact there are no vaccines at this time, social isolation and crowd mitigation appear to be the
best therapy. It is in the best interest of the Church, its pastor and all its members to consider and take
under advisement creative ministry. Creative ministry is designed to offer alternative ways or methods
of worship, with the core component being the absence of large gatherings. Several suggestions have
been made.
Graveside funerals with the attendance of just the family and funeral home visitation have been
suggested. Some churches have decided to have virtual services through Facebook, pre-recordings and
other forms of social media outlets. This issue is extremely emotional and personal.
As the Mayor of the City of Canton, I am asking all pastors, churches and funeral home directors, in their
decision making, to consider the recommendation of the President of the United States. His
recommendation is commensurate with my recommendation as a mayor and practicing physician.
However, the Church has the final decision as to how it wishes to continue its funerals and its worship.
